Who has more potential?

There are several characters that have an amazing potential for great power, some take the opportunity to gain this power and others, well not so much.

Goku

We all know that Goku “has” the most potential since he is Akira Toriyama’s baby. Goku was the character that started the franchise when he was introduced in Dragon Ball. He was an alien (Saiyan) from Planet Vegeta, when Frieza was about to destroy his home world, Goku’s Father, Bardock, sent Goku away in an escape pod which landed on Earth where a man named Gohan found him. Gohan took care of Goku even though he was severely tempered and insane due to his Saiyan Genes, but this problem was soon solved when Gohan accidentally dropped Goku which caused him to lose his memory and forget what his mission was. Straight away Goku shows he is capable of major potential. He took on the great King Piccolo and when he grew up, he was the first to prevail over Lord Frieza by himself, and now he has surpassed the Gods. He shows immense potential during the Tournament of Power. He was able to tap into the power of Ultra Instinct but unfortunately, he didn’t master it, all the Gods were shocked as for them to reach this power it would take tonnes of training. Goku was able to tap this power when he was at near death caused by his own spirit bomb. Goku nearly dying pushed him beyond his limits but he soon lost his power. But surprisingly was capable of re-triggering the power to fight against Kefla. When he faced against Jiren, Goku was pushed and pushed and pushed to the very edge of his power. Vegeta gave Goku his energy before falling out of the arena which I believe helped Goku go past his limits and reach Ultra Instinct. Goku then was able to master Ultra Instinct in his “final” battle against Jiren. This all shows that within 48 minutes Goku was able to crack through his limits allowing him to surpass the gods.

Vegeta

Vegeta has immense power and can go out of his way to gain a new power, he proves this by obtaining his Super Saiyan(ssj) God without the help of the ritual that Saiyan’s needed to progress to the next stage of their power. He also shows that he can be stronger than others, like Goku, without obtaining a new form, In Battle of Gods Vegeta’s ssj2 form was able to surpass Goku’s ssj3 form. Vegeta was classed as a powerful Saiyan from a young age, Saiyans are tested at birth for their fighting capabilities and are put into different classes based upon their strength. Vegeta was a Super Elite where as Goku was disposable garbage which led to Vegeta looking down on Goku as he believed Goku was nothing compared to him. At first Goku was easily able to surpass Vegeta due to the fact Vegeta didn’t know that Saiyans could achieve a new form but once Vegeta was able to obtain new forms like Goku he was able to surpass Goku even when he was a form behind.

Frieza

When Frieza was first seen, he was introduced as the ruler of the entire universe. He was the one that almost destroyed the Saiyan population and who was Goku’s greatest enemy, most people would say. Before meeting Goku, Frieza had never trained a day in his life before which tells us that from birth, he had the power that was capable of destroying worlds. We see his potential in Resurrection F where he was resurrected and trains for 4 months straight to catch up to Goku, some of you might say that doesn’t show potential since it took 4 months but bear in mind, he was dead for a long time and he has never done training before so it was new to him. He achieved a new form with all his training, but he was cocky when facing Goku as he uses his full power without learning to control it first before fighting Goku and Vegeta. What’s also impressive is that Frieza’s golden form doesn’t have god Ki and it was stronger than Goku’s Super Saiyan Blue. After he was defeated, he was later brought back from the dead to fight for universe 7 in the Tournament of Power. For this tournament Frieza had learned to control his power, but he had no time from being brought back to train to perfect his form. He impressed me personally as he didn’t need his body to perfect his Golden form as he trained mentally to learn to control his immense power.

Broly

Broly could have great potential as he was born with an extremely powerful Ki level of 10,000 where as Saiyan’s normally are between 5 and 1,000. Difference between Broly and other saiyans is that he is just filled with hatred for Goku and is set out to defeat him, his rage and anger holds him back. Broly is similar to Gohan, they both have an amazing potential to gain more power, but their mindset isn’t in the right direction.

Gohan

Gohan is Goku’s first son who was introduced at the start of Dragon Ball Z. He had loads of potential at the start which was shown when Raditz was beating Goku and Gohan got angry and managed to severely damage Raditz and another time was when he was able to catch Frieza off guard, while he was in his third form. Gohan also had his potential unleashed by Elder Kai doing a ritual during the Buu saga. Due to this power increase Gohan was more powerful that Goku’s ssj3 and easily played with Super Buu. Unfortunately, Gohan was soon defeated when he was getting too cocky and didn’t kill Buu straight away. In the Super series Gohan was close to SSB in terms of power. Bear in mind Gohan never unlocked God Ki, this proves he is filled with lots of potential, but his family and school prevent him from unlocking his true power.

Jiren

You might be confused as to why Jiren out of all people are on this list, but I believe he has tonnes of potential, this is because he has trained his whole life to get to where he is, he was the strongest character in the Tournament of Power. Jiren was stronger than everyone else in the tournament and he didn’t have God Ki unlike Goku and Vegeta who struggled. Jiren trained himself from the ground up, even though he is a mortal he has shown that he has great power without the help of others. So imaging if he had a God Ki.
