For Steve Rogers, after waking up from decades of a suspended animation that involves of more than catching up on pop culture, it also means that this old school idealist must face a new world of subtler threats and more difficult moral complexities. This become clear when the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury, was killed by the mysterious assassin, known as the Winter Soldier, but not before he warned Steve that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been subverted by their enemies. When Steve acts upon Fury's warning to try nobody around him, he is branded as a traitor by the organisation. Now that he is a fugitive, Captain America must find out more about this deadly mystery with the help of Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow, and his new friend, The Falcon. However, the the battle will be costly for the Sentinal of Liberty, with Steve finding enemies when he least expects them while also learning that the Winter Soldier looks oddly familiar.
